Apparently I Am The Only One Who Wanted To Walk Out Of Arrival

I know I don’t normally review films on this blog, but this movie has to be an exception.
Did you like the movie, Arrival, starring Amy Adams about a translator trying to communicate with aliens?
I didn’t.
In fact, it was the first movie in a while that I wanted to walk out of.
After she spoke to the aliens face to face and it was revealed she had the power to see into the future, I was done.
But at that point I was there in the theater, so I stuck it out.
I won’t go as far to say that the movie ruined blockbusters like Marvel.
That is a whole nother level.
The movie got too deep for me.
Too many flashbacks.
Or were they flashfowards?
Who knows?
They tried to make a twist.
Like The Sixth Sense.
Oh my god she can see into the future all along! That is why she can help the aliens!
At least I think that is what the twist was?
Then she called the Chinese general and told him about his wife, because of a vision she had of him telling her about saving the world.
I am not kidding.
That is what actually happened.
I loved the actors in it.
Jeremy Renner and Forrest Whitaker were really good.
The characters, themselves were kind of boring.
There was no humor in it.
Like it took itself a little too seriously.
The writers of this were so focused on making a twist that they forgot to make the characters interesting.
You have generic douche-bag businessman, generic crazy asian military leader.
I would have liked to know more about those characters intentions.
Instead of them just being assholes.

The future husband doesn’t express any real feelings towards his future wife.
Did they forget to include that part?
The guy falls in love with the woman, but we are never really presented that there was any love between them in the first place.
And do we even know why the aliens were here to begin with?
They wanted to trade.
They didn’t want to trade.
They will help us in three thousand years.
Whatever.
You can see why I almost walked out.
I don’t know if the writers actually know why the aliens were there either.
They came and they left.
That’s it.
No shots fired.
Nothing learned.
They just left, after all of that.
Wow. What a movie.
And to make this whole thing even more amusing, I am in the minority here.
It is amazing, at least according to everyone else.
I don’t know.
It is me here.
The people who saw it, loved it.
You may sleep through this film if you see it.
I don’t know who these people are who saw this movie,
At one point I was just tired of seeing about her daughter.
Just…
Don’t see this movie.
There is nothing sci-fi about it.
The aliens do nothing.
We do nothing.
Save your money.

  1. I understood the movie better after doing a google search, after the fact … laughing.

Hey if you loved this POS, don’t forget to see “Under the Skin” with Scarlett Johansson.
